Description: WTG has hiked at Boyd pond before, but this time we will try a new route that combines the nature trail and part of the mountain biking trail. There will be several nice views of the pond. We will cross the pond’s upper regions on a board walk bridge, walk past the observatory, and a horse farm during this circular walk. For those that desire a somewhat shorter but easier hike which avoids the hill there will be an option to stay down near the pond on a paved path with frequent park benches and nice views. Both routes will end at the starting point where the cars are parked
Meeting Place: For those wishing to drive directly to Boyd Pond, meet in the parking lot just before going over the “dam/bridge” which impounds the pond for a 2.00 pm departure. For those wishing to car pool, we will meet behind the doctor’s offices in the Woodside village at 1.30 pm for a 1.45 pm departure. The drive to the starting point will take about 15 minutes.
Coffee after the hike: For those that wish, we will stop for coffee after the hike at the Village café.
Distance: 2.2 miles
Terrain: For the most part, the terrain is flat but there is one moderate hill going up to the observatory. Most of the walk will be on a dirt trail but a small portion along the pond is paved. The trail is usually dry.
