Description: Phinizy Swamp Nature Park is a series of 12 lagoons and associated wetlands. The floodplain area is filled with a rich diversity of plant life such as Bald Cypress, Water Oak, Sweetgum and so much more. A variety of animal life has also been spotted to include River Otter, Beavers, Red Shouldered Hawk, Egrets & Herons. There are also a variety of wildflowers and flowering shrubs. The trails are a combination of boardwalks and raised trails that take you through wetland areas and around the lagoons. More details can be found at the website: https://phinizycenter.org/
Meeting Place: We’ll meet at the Villages of Woodside in the parking lot behind the doctor’s offices at 9:00 am to car pool. The trip from there to the trail takes about ½ hour. Alternatively, you can meet us at the Swamp visitor center parking lot at 9:30 am. The parking lot is located at 1858 Lock and Dam Rd. Augusta Ga. It will be a left turn just before you get to the Augusta Airport.
Lunch: For those that wish to have lunch afterwards, the hike leaders will arrange for lunch at California Dreaming 3241Washington Rd in Augusta. You must contact one of the hike leaders by Wednesday April 29th if you want to go to lunch.
