Woodside residents choose to call the community home for many reasons: the active lifestyle, the incredible amenities, the nature trails, and the friendly neighbors, to name just a few. It is, therefore, a great honor, and a nod to the wonderful residents that have chosen to invest in and build their lives at Woodside, to be named by Where to Retire magazine as one of the 50 Best Master-Planned Communities in the United States.

What is a master-planned community?

BusinessDictionary describes a master-planned community as a “residential plan that includes an unusual number of recreational amenities such as parks, golf courses, lakes, bike paths, and jogging trails.” What sets one apart from a traditional subdivision, however, is a tenet that Woodside prides itself on: the welcoming sense of community fostered by these shared gathering spaces, like parks, trails and more. Take a look below for some images from resident-planned events like Winey Wednesday in Summer Hill Park, that are prime examples of this sense of community and that helped earn Woodside its place among the top 50 best master-planned communities:

Why was Woodside chosen by Where to Retire magazine as one of the 50 Best Master-Planned Communities in the United States?

During a nine-month selection process, Where to Retire magazine’s editors reviewed several hundred candidates across the country. Through this process, Woodside was selected to join “an elite group of developments that offer today’s retirees a well-rounded, active lifestyle.” Read on for an excerpt from Where to Retire magazine’s announcement publication on what stood out about Woodside to its editors:

“Adjacent to a nature preserve, this development boasts parks for picnicking, a 17.25-mile trail system for hiking and numerous lakes for fishing, kayaking and paddleboating. Folks gather at The Reserve Club for resident-led groups, Sunday brunches and wine tastings. Its Verandah restaurant features a deck overlooking one of the golf courses, a masterpiece from Jack Nicklaus’ design company. A salon and spa, medical offices and multiple eateries are on property at The Village at Woodside, an adjacent community, while history, festivals and a rich equestrian tradition await in Aiken [South Carolina].”
